our weekend :: birthday edition

December 10, 2012

1./ partay.  emily and jeff hosted an adult-only ugly christmas sweater party on friday night.  i was looking forward to it all day.  steven found matching santa shirts with a “believe” slogan and we hit their party up in style!  if we’re friends on Facebook, you got an eyefull of snazzy picture booth photos from that night.  thank you, chrystal, for watching the kiddos so we could have a date night!  and thank you, emily and jeff, for putting on a fab celebration!

2./ eye appointments.  that’s me pulling my hair out, and the schooners putting on their best grumpy faces.  i don’t know what it is about schooners and waiting rooms, but they mix like oil and water.  we had everyone checked {save for Keller…can you even imagine how that would go down?!}  and we all walked away with a clean bill of health…the best of birthday presents.

3./ birthday.  it was also my birthday this weekend.  i’m 25.  and i feel like a real adult now.  took awhile, i know.  steven picked up some breve` mistos from starbucks and elizabeth wrote me a birthday message.  i got cards in the mail and my sister sent me some anchor earrings {perfect!!!} and it all amounted to a really nice day.  i’m a little things person…through and through.

4./ zella’s birthday.  sweet zella!  she had a big day with balloons, presents, pizza, trampoline, and gumball machines…emma claire and shiloh got to join in for all of it and after it was all over and they were stuffing candy from their gift bags and laying in bed reminiscing on good times, i decided something.  birthdays put my children in the best of moods.  it almost cancels out eye appointments.

5./ in the raw.  while the girls were partying with zella, steven and i stole away for a quick birthday lunch at our favorite sushi place.  now, i’m not the biggest sushi person, but in the raw has the best salads and the coolest view.  and tolix chairs.  you just can’t go wrong with that.

6./ claire’s birthday.  sweet claire!  she had a cherry berry party full of crafts, balloons, pizza, and of course, lots of frozen yogurt.   i think i’ll steal this idea, laura, when shiloh turns 4 in the heat of an oklahoma summer next year!

7./ christmas lights.  cherry berry was right by the rhema christmas light display, so we rode through and oohed and ahhed over everything with the kids.  they are at a good age for christmas this year.  too little to get an overly entitled attitude, but not too big to miss the wonder and magic of christmas.  i am loving it. 🙂

8./ cupcake treat.  i had it all planned out to treat myself to a cupcake for my birthday from alter {egos} cupcakery.  steven made a special trip to downtown for me and the jaunt was oh so worth it!  i tried their new orange cupcake with cloves and cranberries and…my. word.  you’ve got to go for it too.  they’re at 6th and boston.

9./ end-of-year bible study. we celebrated our last bible study with this sweet group from rejoice on sunday night.  they have been so kind and welcoming to allow our family to be apart of their group all semester.  we will miss all of you!

and that concludes our weekend of parties!  we are getting the house ready for christmas today.  decorating our little tree, making these cookies, and these ornaments.  we’re sending out christmas boxes to the east coast and beginning our advent {10 days late}.  the children are ready and eager to say goodbye to boxes and hello to decorations.  and to be honest, i am too. 🙂

have a merry monday today!
