Jan04 My word. 2013

DSC_0341

I’ve been mulling over what “my word” is going to be in 2013.  Normally, I don’t fall on the bandwagon with these types of things.  Normally I’m lazy like that.  Normally I’ll think about writing a post like this and it’ll just never happen, or I’ll start it and it gets dumped in my drafts folder.  But this word idea?  I just couldn’t get it out of my head.  {And my head likes to have ideas in them.}  So I thought it was fate knocking at my door and I should open it.  Or something really deep like that.

And I chose a word.

The truth is, it’s been one heck of a year.  And I needed a word to head into this next one.  Maybe I need more than a word, but it seemed like a really good place to start.  Something to keep my focus.  Something to ground me when I want to take flight.  Something to remind me of where I was a year ago.

And just like the idea itself, the word “hope” kept springing to my mind and I couldn’t let it go.  So that’s the one I chose.

Hope.

What a beautiful word.

Hope brings us to the next day, the next hour, the next minute, with an expectation that there is something waiting for us with the tick tock of the clock.

Hope drives our souls.

Hope keeps us questioning, searching, and discovering.

Hope keeps us believing in not just the power of tomorrow’s, but in the power of an almighty God who holds all the tomorrows of the universe within His hands.  How do you even grapple with a hope like that?  How can you argue with it?  How can you throw away the gift of peace that that kind of hope brings our spirits?

Yet hope is there.  Within our grasps.  Within His hands.

And I want to take ahold of it this year.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 ~ “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.  Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you.  And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

Here’s to 2013!  May yours be filled with hope.

Mary Beth, after reading this blog, I myself came across a devotional website for mom’s that was talking about picking my “word” for the year! So I felt like God was telling me to pick one. I picked FOCUS. Which is funny b/c we’re constantly telling Peyton…”focus, child!” and maybe God is telling me that this year. Thanks for letting God use you in my life!
