Feb21 Snow Day | 2013 2013
Ah…I can die happy now. We had all but given up hope for a snow this season and then wouldn’t you know it? It came in late February. God likes surprises too I guess. :)
I was working on my computer in the wee early-morning-hours yesterday and I heard E.C. excitedly yelling about how she could see snow out her window. I know better than to trust a 4-yr-old, but she is pretty “with it” with those types of things…and we had been praying for half a year that we would get snow in Oklahoma and I had an inkling God wouldn’t leave us hanging. So I peeked through the slats of our window shades and wonder of wonders there was not only a blanket of pretty snow already on the ground, but it was still steadily coming down. We ditched school and decided to dedicate our day to making snowmen and snow angels, eating snow, drinking hot chocolate, painting inside, watching movies, and cooking in the kitchen. What a fun day and memories I will cherish forever.
As always, pictures can be deceiving. There were fights and bad attitudes mixed in with smiles and dimples. I didn’t put a single stitch of makeup on the whole day and didn’t get a shower till 4pm. Keller was absent from some of our pictures because he was throwing deathly tantrums about normal baby things {like having to wear diapers}. Such is life. Our crazy life.
I think Keller was the most excited of all about the snow, which greatly surprised me. When he had to come inside to warm his hands, he couldn’t stop staring at the girls playing out the window. When playing outside he did destructive things like boys do…knocked down the girls carefully built snowman and hit snow off of the trees with sticks. He never got tired of it. And when he woke up from his nap, the first thing he wanted to do was check out the window and see the “noh!”
You know those moments as a parent where you’re just so proud of your kids your heart will burst. It might be little to someone else, but you’re their mum and you think it’s so awesome. When they built their snowman all by themselves, complete with a carrot nose, black bean eyes, and real live buttons from my sewing stash, it was like parenting through all these years culminated in front of me: we are going to make it. We are going to survive this. We are going to do great things with our lives…like build snowmen from scratch. And it was such a comforting thought, you know. To see your fleet of schooners start to become independent and creative and become their own little persons.
I am just so thankful for our cousin Michelle in Chicago, who has passed down snow gear to us throughout the years. We are always prepared and it makes the cold not only bearable, but enjoyable for these schooners. Thank you, Michelle!!!
I’ve been branching my photography skills to include little things all around me in life…it is stretching me to view things differently. To see the world in a new light. But some of my favorite things to pin on Pinterest are the everyday images…and that has inspired me to grow my photography in this way. I don’t want to ever be comfortable with where I am. I want to grow and change and see new things.
And that was our day. Full and rich with memories and food and play.
Did you have a snow day yesterday??? How did you spend yours?
