Feb27 What I Wore Wednesday 2013
Ok. Y’all left the best thread of comments on the history of A & C after yesterday’s post. I am so so glad you were encouraged, because I was encouraged too.
And speaking of encouraged, I was reading this blog post in a series about blogging by Jenni and it really hit home for me. The gist of it was, “Lifestyle bloggers should be in their photos occasionally, not just snapping them.”
Cut me straight to the heart.
I’ve never ever liked being in photos. I love taking photos. I’ve never wanted to be narcissistic about this blogging thing. And I’m honestly afraid to put myself out there. But when I think about the blogs I love to read and the Facebook photos I dig…well. I love seeing you. You with your kids. You drinking coffee. You having crazy hair days. You dancing at midnight. I love it. All of it.
So since this is the year I’m getting over fears and digging in with my heels. This is me. Making an effort to be a better blogger. And if lipstick isn’t a stretch, I don’t know what is…
I have bribed Steven with extra kissing to be my new What-I-Wore-Wednesday photographer. I’ve told him about all these fabulous husbands who are out there, every day. Through thick and thin. Treading through rain and snow. Snapping photos of their wives for fashion blogs like Happily Grey. “Babe, you can do this!”, I encouraged him. Once a week. We’re facing our fears together.
And I when I got all done putting the outfit together, I asked the infamous question we women know how to ask so well, “Do I look ok?”
{Are men really allowed to say anything other than yes?}
He said the well-versed and correct answer. {Now we don’t have a floor length mirror over here, so I asked him a second time as I was looking in the reflection of our sliding glass door…checking on things.} He stood there observing me and said,
“I think the scarf needs to go.”
“WHY?! ”
“It’s just so…big. You know?”
“I don’t know, babe. The scarf makes this outfit.”
And he rolled his eyes. Because really. Why do men even bother and why do women even ask?
Now to keep things real, you must know I spent an hour in the bathroom to look like this. I’m not one of those girls who can throw my hair up and walk out of the house in seconds looking all fab. I so wish I could do that…you girls who can? You have a gift I’m telling you. :)
So you are getting a little more business with this outfit, because I wanted an excuse to put makeup on and heels…
I’m afraid I’m no help really with my sources other than to give you an idea of where I like to shop. Everything I own is bought from drastically reduced clearance prices, yard sales, or consignment stores.

Love this outfit!! I would totally wear this! :D
Thanks, Cindy! I love your lace pencil skirt you wore in your post. We carry similar ones at Anthropologie and I think they are perfectly classy!
RED LIPSTICK! Go, MB, go! Love bun + scarf. The scarf totally makes the outfit:)
You put a big smile on my Burt’s Bees lips just now. :) Haha! You are THE red lipstick queen and I have been so inspired by you. Here’s to branching out!
I LOVE the scarf…but I think the purple tights make the outfit!!!
Oh my…that conversation sounds so familiar! Jeff and I have those all. the. time! Ha! You look beautiful! Great work, Johnson duo!
I love that scarf! It definitely made the outfit come together. I often wonder why we ask our husbands anyway.. I know we want them to think we look good, but really, my husband knows nothing about fashion or what actually looks good. haha! If i wanted to do an outfit post on my blog, he’d tell me to wear sweat pants, an oversized hoodie & no makeup. (which is good, i suppose) but it’s not for the blog ha! oh well, gotta love the hubbies.. they try! :)
yes, the scarf makes the outfit friend!!! it’s simply amazing :) you are beautiful! kudos to the head shot – i reeeally struggle with those…
You look cute and I love the scarf! My sweet husband takes my outfit pictures too. He used to grumpily joke about it, but now I think he secretly likes it – it gives him a chance to work on his photography skills :)
Poor hubbies, significant-others and besties. They have to put up with a lot in this pursuit of ours. Your hubby took some great shots. (Hope that helps keep him focused)
I recognize those cold hands! Looking great :)
