Mar12 Keeping Life Simple. 2013
I am a simple person. If we were to meet in real life you would see me 90% of the time with my hair pulled back loose in a low bun {because I fully blow dry and straighten my hair about 4 times a year}. You would find me in jeans, a simple tee or sweater, and moccasins. If you were to do a walk-through in my house you would see minimalism at its’ best/worst. :) We don’t do a lot of toys. We don’t do a lot of clothes in our closets or dressers. I own one pot. We do not have a microwave. And I just got my first upgraded lens after 2+ years of owning my DSLR.
I do better with simple. I am able to get more creative. I am not bogged down by the unnecessary. I can think clearer in an uncluttered world.
And I think it makes me appreciate when I have more, or get to do more, or see more.
Like fancy coffee…
I can make a cup of coffee at home. In my own coffee maker. But sometimes you need to get out of routine, splurge a little, and have an experience, however simple it may be.
Emily and I had been scheming to go out for a special friend date {sans kiddos} and had coffee on our minds. I follow Shades of Brown on facebook and they are forever calling my name when they appear in my newsfeed. So we booked a date.
I had been looking forward to it all week and when they day finally came and I put my photo editing to rest; stopped cleaning the house; put some make-up on; read the chapter on faith in the book we’re going through; figured out babysitters for the next day for the schooners…well I was exhausted. I had been up since 4:30am trying to get everything done before the schooners awoke and still had work and more work I needed to do. But when I finally said goodbye to phones and computers, mental lists and handwritten schedules, and climbed in the car with my friend….life stilled for a moment.
We talked.
About life. The highs, the lows, the ups, the downs. We hashed through problems and celebrated victories. We read the Word and remembered His promises. Shared our fears and voiced our dreams. We cried our tears and laughed our laughs.
And it was during those quiet moments in a coffee shop, sipping on coffee and munching on quiche, that I realized it…keep life simple, MB. All the money in the world, all the business you could win, all the places you could see, all the possessions you could acquire, can never replace people and moments like this.
For simple things, and a simple life, are really what make it all so grand.

Looks like such a wonderful day! I wish I was better at the minimalist life style, I have enough stuff for multiple houses, clothes for many, and pots and pans for a million meals. :(!

I agree with Michelle up there-I wish I was better at minimal. Because what you said- “I can think clearer in an uncluttered world” is true of me too. Have. less. stuff. What a special experience.
i have alot of stuff but i think that it is true that thinking clearer definitely takes place in an uncluttered world. those pieces of pottery and that coffee shop look just right for your date with your dear friend.
