embrace

If you’re new here, Wednesday is the day I try to get creative with what I already own in my closet.  I want to think past the expected and the hum drum and get braver, more adventurous, with what I would typically think to put together in an outfit. Without going and spending a bunch of money.

I get a lot of my inspiration from pinterest, and if you follow me, you’ll notice I love, absolutely love fashion.  And stripes.  And the preppy nautical.  You can’t take the coast out of an east coastal girl I guess.

Anyway, I pinned a photo on pinterest of stripes and florals paired together and I couldn’t get over how pretty it looked.   I began mulling over how I could implement that pattern mixing into what I already had in my wardrobe.  The lightbulbs clicked.  I had had this lighthouse linen skirt in my closet for years and it never seemed to fit right, nor could I find a single thing that looked good with it.  So I altered it from a size 10 to a size 4 so that it would fit higher waisted, which is exactly how J. Crew intended for it to fit, but I guess I was still stuck in Bob Jones mode way-back-when and thought everything had to come to mid calf.  I laugh just thinking about it. :)  When the now-size-four-skirt was paired with a striped shirt that Steven bought for me {can we say, he has gift giving and my style down?} it looked perfect in my book.  It was me, but a braver me and I thought, Pinterest, you’ve gone and done it again.”

unexpected

I was planning on going punchy with some avocado tights, but all the digging in the laundry would not turn them up, so I grabbed these knee socks on my way out the door and I think it took the whole outfit in an unexpected turn.  And I love that.

I hope these posts inspire you to think outside the box with what you already have in your closet.  If you have a few good basics, like a neutral blazer, white tee, good pair of skinny jeans, flats, a pair of pumps, and some pattern, you can create anything and make a bunch of different outfits.  I’m telling you.  Go for it!

Love that you paired different patterns together. The skirt is very reminiscent of a dress I saw at Anthropologie. Very cute!
