Let’s just be honest. Dressing a bébé bump is only fun until around 25 weeks and then it starts to feel like the biggest chore to find what stretches enough, hides enough, and accents all the right things. And you still have 15 weeks to go! This is my first time being pregnant all the way through the summer and I’m thinking about spending the entire months of August and September sitting in front of the air conditioner just so I can survive it. The schooners are going to want nothing to do with that, so I’ve tried to come up with a game plan on how to dress on a budget while staying comfortable, feeling attractive, and maximizing what I already own. It’s called swimming pools and maxi everything. Maxi skirts. Maxi dresses. And anything else maxi I can find. (I hate the word “maxi”, so I’m testing it out to see if it get’s more comfortable…nope.)
Right now, I have about 6 or 7 articles of clothing I can wear and so far I’ve survived really well by mixing and matching everything. I think the trick that makes me feel pretty and feminine while pregnant is in mixing it up with accessories and painting my nails. I have a colorful scarf that goes with all my tank tops and tees. Neutral bracelets and necklaces that are easy to throw on and don’t get in the way when I’m chasing kids. And bright, Anthropologie nail polish I got on sale back in the winter. When Lily Jade asked to send me their diaper bag that isn’t really anything like a diaper bag, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. It was the perfect accessory to round out my arsenal of supplies. 🙂
Call it growing up in a family of 14 children, but I always have this gnawing feeling to blend function with style and I can honestly say this bag fits the bill perfectly and blew me away. It has tons of pockets and a practical, wipeable lining and washable insert that comes out for cleaning, or to drop off when you drop your kids off somewhere. It holds my camera and protects it well, which is always a struggle I have when we’re going out. I typically have to bring two bags with me and that just doesn’t fly when you’re adding a fourth baby into the mix!
I’m beginning to feel well prepared for this summer. I’ve learned it’s not the amount of pieces you have, but having a few of the right essentials that work for your lifestyle and make you feel good about yourself. And pregnancy is always hard for me to feel good about myself. 😉 I sometimes spend more on a single piece of clothing, but now I know what is flattering on my body type and I’m totally ok with picking the one piece I feel really good about and putting the other 15 back on the rack. I’ll get a lot of use out of that one skirt!
